Today was the 20th doctor's appointment that I have been to in 39 days. Yup, half of my days lately have been spent getting to know doctor's, nurses and the layouts of hospitals. Today was the fourth day of appointments this week...and today was the day that my body and everything else rebelled against me.
So here is how it went:
* First, I have to mention that after yesterday's appointment, I hadn't been feeling well. Last night I decided not to eat on account of feeling like anything that went down would in no time come back up (NO I am not pregnant)
* I started the morning by dropping Logan off at Kathy's for the second day in a row and heading to Portland for the 3rd time this week. I made it to the appt. on time and ready to go.
* Korben was crazy in the appointment and at one point I tried to catch him but instead caught my back on a corner of molding in the room (later Kathy let me know that I had a nice patch of blood on my clothes from it). The day steadily continued to go down hill when the appointment wasn't as productive as I had hoped. The neurologist isn't sure what the abnormalities in Korben's EEG are. On a positive note, she doesn't think they are seizures (although she isn't 100% sure so we aren't supposed to rule it out yet).
* After the appointment we were sent to have Korben's blood drawn and give a urine sample.
This is where the story gets good/bad/funny folks.
BAD: I now know the true definition of torture: holding your child down while two nurses unsuccessfully dig around with a needle in his arm trying to find a vein.
FUNNY: After seeing the blood from the successful needle, I promptly FAINTED while holding my son down. When I came to, I found out it had taken 4 nurses (one to hold me, one to hold Korben, one to hold the needle, and one to pull out the blood) to get a blood sample from the Korbenator.
In my defense, I really am not bothered by blood. I think the combination of no food last night, and no food this morning (I still didn't feel well), and starting my period this morning (a week early - I think I might be a little stressed...and I told you I wasn't pregnant :D ), combined with the throbbing gash in my back AND the sight of blood was the cause of me temporarily checking out of my life.
GOOD: They did get the blood and after about 20 minutes I was able to stand up and go about my day.
* A really sweet moment was after I was feeling a little better; Korben came to me and gave me his frog and then held out a cup of water for me, and then proceeded to give me all 4 of his stickers. What started out as me taking care of Korben, ended up being a very touching moment of Korben taking care of me.
* I wish the craziness ended there, but it just continued. To sum up... left the diagnostic center, purchased some gauze for Logan, up to the 5th floor to grab some surgical tubing for Logan, back down to the first floor, crossed the street, down 4 flights of stairs in the parking garage, checked messages on the cell phone (I had left my insurance card), up 4 flights of stairs, back across the street, up to the 3rd floor for the card, back to the first floor...At this point I was feeling quite a lot of self pity, so I stopped at the cafe and spent $3.50 on the largest chocolate eclair I have ever seen...back across the street, down the stairs and into the car for the drive home.
* I still had to collect a urine sample from Korb and take it to the hospital in Vancouver. My 10:30 am appointment was all finished when I arrived home shortly after 5pm.
GOOD TIMES!!

i am sorry it sounds like things are really stressful for you right now! you are a great mom and you have wonderful kids that love you. i hope things get a little easier for you soon. doesn't it seem like when it rains, it pours?
You have to admit that your life is not dull ;D
Hope it all gets back to dull normal soon.
Oh you poor thing...hank goodness kids are worth all the trouble! I bet you're not sad you're not pregnant at the moment ;D
Is Mike home this weekend?
Wow! That puts all my whiny nonsense days totally in perspective! I hope you get feeling better soon.
How DO you get a urine sample from a 3 year old?
All those trips up the stairs must have been a great workout, but would have probably been easier if you felt well.
Good luck with all the Dr. stuff - you are wonder woman for sure!!
I have the same question. How do you get a urine sample from a 3 year old...
I am baffled. I have enough problems with our constant urinalysis.
Chocolate Éclair...If only if only. Sounds like you deserved some goodness!
You Amaze me Sis. Your job is way harder than mine!
Buck up lil camper!
You are doin a great job!
This is a classic example of why there should be more than one of you. You're probably so skinny with all that running around. Your a good momma. My screamer is my 7 year old. Image the nurses it takes to hold him down. Or I man and two nurses.
What on earth?! EEGs, multitudinous dr appts, did I miss something big? Email me!! (now I'm worried)
You are amazing! I think every mother goes above and beyond the call of duty taking care of kids but those mothers that take care of kids and are in and out of hospitals to do it - I admire them. You said it all. I guess you do what you have to just to get it all done but sometimes I wonder if there is some of wonder woman in you.
I still would like to know the question everyone is wondering and a couple has asked... how do you get a urine sample from a 3 year old? Is he potty trained yet? I really hope things turn up for you soon. I think I'll be mailing something to you soon... just to help you out until things smooth out. :D
