Way back in March, Mike gave me some seeds for my birthday. He knew how much I
wanted to try square foot gardening and this was
his way of telling me he would help.
So two weeks ago, right before he left for another trip, he put the boxes together for me. The following day I mixed the soil, and the next day, Korben and I planted our seeds. It was really fun to do with Korben, especially when he said,
"Goodbye beans, see you later".
Some things to know when making your own:
*Mixing the 3 way soil mixture is
easiest if you do it by hand.
*Those boxes can hold A LOT of water, so go crazy with the hose in the beginning.
*This is by far the easiest way to plant seeds by hand.
Poke a hole with your finger, drop a seed in,
cover it...so simple!
Since planting the boxes, I have learned that I do not have much patience and that checking the boxes multiple times every day does not, in fact, make the seeds grow faster. I about lost it waiting for the first few seeds to sprout because I was sure I had messed something up. After 2 very long weeks, we can FINALLY see some radish sprouts, and I am a little more at ease. And here I thought gardening was supposed to be relaxing...

That's really cool! Hope you get some good fruits out of it! ;)
Yay Sprouts!! That is an exciting part of gardening but it does seem to take FoReVeR!
AND . . .
I'm so Jealous!! We finally had a couple of nice days so I filled our boxes with the soil. I was going to plant this weekend but we ended up with a week of tornadoes. Each box lost nearly half it's soil which is now spread all over the grass (hopefully the grass will do better). And here I thought I wouldn't have to buy the soil again :(
Yeah!! I love having a garden.
I'm impressed! That pic looks like from a home & garden magazine ;) So cool!
So Cool!! I loved gardening in Lehi and I miss it. Makes these pictures all the more fun because you're so enthusiastic about it. Grow garden Grow.
Oh, that will be a fun harvest! I want a garden :)
It definitely takes patience but it looks like you planted them very well - all organized. You are definitely going to enjoy the fruits of that labor - eventually. I wonder if Heavenly Father wasn't trying to teach us patience when he taught gardening. Didn't he plant everything in a day and it just seemed to be there? I guess all part of our training.
hahaha! I love the comment about not getting the plants to grow quicker by checking on them multiple times throughout the day! That would so be me too! :)
Congrats on the sprouts and you'll have to show us the updated photos soon to see how they are growing and how you like this way of gardening. I haven't heard of it actually, but I am glad you had fun planting it with Korben.
