Korben had his school picture day a while ago. I laughed a little when I got the order form in his backpack one day. Seeing the form took me back to all the picture days I have had through the years (the bad and the good). Not much has changed since I was getting my picture taken: Apparently, Herff Jones still has a monopoly on the school picture industry, the background is still that basic cheap looking blue, and the price of the packages are still outrageous. I remember when I was young I didn't understand why Mom couldn't buy a package of each of us twice a year. With the price tag of $11 for one pic, I don't wonder anymore. :D
Waiting for the picture to come back was torture - Did he cooperate? Did they get him to smile? Am I going to have to do re-takes? And then I wasn't even here when it arrived. It came when I was in Utah and I had to wait even longer to see it.
All of my worries were set aside when I saw his picture; his picture is like every school picture I ever had taken of myself. He's not giving his biggest smile, but he's also not frowning - almost as if they missed the real smile moment, caught the after shot and, let's be honest, figured that's good enough for a school picture, and moved on to the next kiddo. He's got a hint of hesitation on his face (and why wouldn't he since he has never done this alone before), but knows what he's supposed to do when they say, "cheese", so gives a tentative smile. All in all, it's everything a school picture should be. :0)

Yes, everything you said is true about all the past school pictures. Probably used the dumb rubber chicken too. He's looking straight at the camera though. Good looking kid no matter what you say. Candid is usually better at showing there better smiles and genuine happiness. I learned that from Kim that taking them yourself is cheaper and better.
Take care.
Aw. How cute! My brother and sister are still in school, and their school pictures are turning out great, they have someone guy named Quackenbush doing them. And my cousin's school has Lifetouch. Unfair if you ask me. But Korben looks adorable :)
look at him looking right at the camera and smiling!!! what a cute kid. thanks so much for coming and helping me today. you are great!
What a cutie! He did a good job.
How cute!
I just got Justin's school pictures yesterday and had many of the same thoughts about his. Who picks these backgrounds anyway? And his smile looks so fake - like he's saying to himself: "come on, a rubber chicken? I'm 10!".
Still, he is adorable and it is nearly impossible to Not pay the rediculous price because you want to preserve the "this is my kid in _____ grade/school" picture.
He looks adorable! Now you've got me thinking about all of my nasty middle school pics...
Then you get on my end of life and wonder why you paid the ridiculous price for them. They are all stuck in a book for posterity to NEVER look at. :O) At least they bring a smile and a memory back to us all when the topic comes up.( Was I really that much of a geek in 6th grade.) :S
hahaha... I loved your rant about school pictures and how awkward they may have turned out in the past, but Korben took a really good photo! Glad you finally saw them and liked them. :)
