Well, I finished the book. I laughed, I cried, I fell in love with Luke...(It's not that I didn't like Jimmy, Luke was just her soul mate). My only complaint with the book is that it ended. I wish we could see the rest of their lives as they try to figure out how to live together without all the adventure. My favorite line was something Luke said, "Celia, when a man gets to the place where he doesn't care about his country nor his character nor his sense of duty, where he doesn't care about one single thing but a woman-then, Celia, hes' got it bad. And my dear, that's the way I've got it." Oh be still my heart. Is he the perfect man or what?! I hope that Mike feels about me the way Luke felt about her.
I loved the book because it really made me appreciate so many things in my life. Little tiny things like hot water, a refrigerator, pants, hospitals, sewing machines, etc. However, I mostly loved how tough Celia was. I love what Vivian says to her...that you just do it because you have to. How true. We all have things that seem impossible (for 2 sisters right now pregnancy may feel like one of them), but somehow we make it through; sometimes by luck, sometimes with help, and sometimes by sheer willpower.
Thank you girls for recommending it to me. I'm glad that I am now an official member of the Celia Garth club.

I am so glad that you are part of this wonderful Celia Garth club. I still enjoy reading that book about once a year for all the reasons you just described.
I hope I'm like her, I hope Shawn is like him. Tough and full of love.
Love ya.
Yeah!! You liked it! Erika will be so glad that you liked Luke. She now has a new guy to match all of her crushes to. She has even passed the book on to 2 of her friends and they all talk about Luke. Now they have their little giggling secret when the rest of the school doesn't understand.
I'm planning on reading it again when I have this baby. Hopefully it will also help me through those first few days (weeks) to appreciate all the little things (toilets, running water, painkillers, nursing pads, baby monitors) that didn't come with that time period and remind me that I can be tough in 'impossible' situations.
Welcome, welcome to our little club. It's amazing the things she goes through and I agree on the Jimmy versus Luke thing. I love the book too and am probably going to add it to my "books I will read in the near future" list. It gets longer and longer but this classic is one I never get tired of.
I love the book Celia Garth. I was wondering how many other books would all of us, including a grandma, mom and daughter (Mom, Kimber & Erika) all like. You really made me want to read it again.
OK, so I think I need to read this book. I may not be a blood sister, but we are related by marriage, right? Can I borrow yours? It sounds like something I could really use right now!I'm excited to get reading:)
I am so glad you liked the book. It is amazing that so many of us with such different personalities like the same book but what's not to like--a wonderful adventure, love story with a sassy heroine. Can't you just picture Luke as tall, dark and handsome?
